Tajarrob
After the mini-summer that was the weekend, the weather forecast is telling us of a return to cooler temperatures and some showers over the next few days. Given the levels of rain we have endured over the Winter and Spring, it is remarkable to see how quickly the ground has dried up. While we trainers seem to be obsessed with weather, living in Britain through the vagaries of the seasons tends to make weather watching a necessity, especially when making entries and looking for suitable ground. In less than a fortnight, racecourses around the country have taken soft to heavy from the going description and replaced it with good, and in places, firm.
Weather concerns can be put to one side for today at least as I run Tajarrob in the Hellermanntyton Solutions Novice Median Auction Stakes over a mile at Wolverhampton (7.25). Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s filly made her debut over 7f at Lingfield in November, and after being a little green and tardy away from the stalls, she made some late headway to be beaten 6 ¾ lengths. The principles from this contest have largely upheld the form, and with that experience under her belt, I am hopeful of an improved performance. The penalised runners set a decent standard, along with potential improvement from the other lightly-raced contenders, but I think the stiffer test at Wolves will aid our cause. It will be no easy task for Dane O’Neill from stall 10, but I am hoping he will be able to find a nice slot for Tajarrob behind the pace, and she will finish out her race well. She lacks the race-fitness of some of her rivals and will come on plenty for the run.
