Khitaamy

We had around 25mm of rain here at La Grange yesterday but it is dry and breezy today and it is likely to be nice ground for the first meeting of the year at Newmarket’s July Course on Saturday. We could have a handful of runners there. It was fantastic to be able to take the horse onto the Limekilns this morning and the ground was lovely but there was a fierce headwind which made life quite difficult for the horses.

Same Jurisdiction ran well at Leicester on Monday. She was second to the Albany second Bletchley and finished comfortably clear of the rest. This was an encouraging seasonal debut I hope she can build on this run going forward. Opposition ran much better on his second start of the year when going down by a short-head at Windsor on Monday night. He saw his race out well and I hope we can find some decent ground at a more galloping track next time. Soqrat was disappointing, he travelled well and stopped very quickly.

We run two horses this evening at Kempton Park. Khitaamy drops back in trip to seven furlongs this evening in the 6:55. It does not look the strongest of races on the form book but there are some nicely bred newcomers. The drop back in trip should not inconvenience our gelding as he shows us speed at home and he is by Approve. He looked like he may win at Nottingham and just failed to see the trip out. The winner has since stepped up in trip to win a competitive handicap which gives the form a more solid look. Of those to have run my brother’s horse has shown the most when fourth in a bunched finish over course and distance. Don’t Give Up has been well drawn in stall four and is a well bred son of Dubawi, he has been strong in the market. Hyperloop is another likely type but he has been drawn in the car park whilst Sand Shoe appeals on paper but she has been done no favours in stall twelve. I hope we can make our experience count but it could be a nice race.

Solajan runs in the next race at 7:25. He was far too keen in the early stages at Chelmsford and he compromised any chance he had and finished at the rear of the field. We have added a net to his hood and it appears to have had a calming effect at home. He has been drawn better in stall four and Adam Kirby won on him at Lingfield, so I hope he can relax better and therefore run a better race this evening. It looks an open race but Nathan Mayer saw his race out strongly at Nottingham and looks the type to improve further. Sussex Ranger caught the eye over a mile as he stayed on again late when last seen and this step up in trip should suit him. You could give chances to many but Ply is another who could have a lenient mark.
