It was an exciting start to the October Book 1 Yearling Sale at Tattersalls yesterday with lot 13, a colt by Dubawi out of Izzi Top fetching 2.6m Guineas. There is a much talked about Dubawi colt out of Danedream still to sell and he is likely to be the sales topper. I bought four yearlings yesterday and I was very happy with my purchases which included a son of Poet’s Voice who is a half-brother to The Tin Man.

Mulzim was disappointing last night and did not appear to face the first time blinkers, travelling well before fading in the straight.

We run four horses today at Nottingham and Salisbury. Navajo Squaw and Sageness run in the 2:55 at Nottingham. Both of the fillies are making their debuts and will benefit from the experience of their first start. Navajo Squaw is a daughter of Sir Percy that shows some ability at home and she should appreciate the ground. She does look to be a filly who will improve with racing however and I would be surprised if she knows enough on her first start considering the first two in the market have both run. Sageness is a filly I like and her half-sister Sagaciously did win on debut for me but she is drawn extremely wide in stall fifteen and I am hoping she can run a respectable race from there. She is very much a filly for the future.

Global Exceed has run well the last twice and was arguably unlucky last time as he was drawn well away from the horse that beat him. He should be better back at 6f and I hope he will run well in the 6f Nursery at 3:25. It’s a competitive affair which is not a surprise given the prize money for the grade. Many of his rivals also come here in good form and Diamond Dougal has half of his six pound penalty offset by David Egan. His improvement did come about by dropping back to five furlongs and the sixth furlong is a question mark for him here. Roman Spinner has been improving on the all-weather but she has to prove herself back on turf whilst Daddies Girl won a competitive fillies’ Nursery at Salisbury on soft ground and she cannot be ignored.

Mr Gent runs in the 7f Novice at Salisbury at 2:30. He ran well on soft ground on his debut at Yarmouth when shaping with a deal of promise. This heavy ground will provide a sterner test for him but we hope he will handle it. Jamil is an interesting newcomer and Roundhead was only beaten just over six lengths by a horse that has subsequently been fourth in a Group 3. Tullyallen’s debut was not devoid of promise and Consultant is a likely type on paper but his yard do bring their two year olds along gently and he should improve on what he does today. On the form book it’s not the deepest race and we hope he can go close but he will need to build on the promise he showed at Yarmouth.
