22 November

It is a blustery morning here in Newmarket but it has at least remained dry. We have now got over 20 yearlings in and they are handling their new environment well. The new rules on wind operations that were announced yesterday increase transparency but as has been pointed out on social media and in the press, the operations can sometimes not improve a horse’s performance. Hopefully the BHA will be able to introduce a system that will enable Weatherbys to be notified easily and it won’t cause an administrative headache but there is bound to be a little chaos when the new rule first comes into operation.

Arnarson ran very well on Monday and was denied by a head. If he had broken better from the stalls he may well have won. Global Angel was trapped three wide from his draw for a good deal of the race and the energy he had to use to maintain a position from his wide draw is likely to have contributed to him not finishing his race off in the later stages of the race but he travelled well and showed enough promise to suggest he can win a little race.

We run Canimar this evening at Kempton in the mile Median Auction at 6:10. Given the low Median value and the time of year we were hoping it might be a weak affair when targeting this race but it looks to be stronger than average unfortunately. Blue Mist won very convincingly on debut over the 1m trip and ran very well when second on soft ground on his next start. He may have to run close to 90 this evening to win due to his penalty but given he is closely related to Group performers and he travels like a decent horse he may well be able to and he has been well supported. Given he has been kept on the go for a third start, it is likely his trainer has a handicap in mind for him to start off in come the Spring.

The rest of the principles are open to improvement and many have not run over a mile yet. Canimar has run to a figure in the mid-seventies and gets a fillies allowance, improvement for the step up to a mile is a distinct possibility and if she does step forward for the extra furlong she has decent each way claims. Tanseeq is stepping up to a mile too and he has run into some smart types on his first two starts, we are closely matched on the weights and he is likely to run a big race. Savaanah needs to improve on what she has shown so far but she is in good hands and is bred to need at least a mile. Victory Chime was well found at Nottingham on his last start and whilst he needs to improve on what he has shown, he is obviously liked at home. Indiscretion is a course and distance winner but it was a weaker affair than this and she has a penalty to overcome. Icart Point, Bodes Well and Is It Off have all shown some ability and there should be plenty of winners coming out of this race in the future.
