Global Acclamation
Good morning from Newmarket. Just the one runner for La Grange today, with Global Acclamation representing us in the 0-65 seven-furlong nursery at Kempton at 4.40.
The son of Acclamation showed a modicum of promise on his Salisbury debut, and has followed it up with similar performances at Yarmouth and Wolverhampton. Whilst he has not threatened the judge in any of his three outings to date, we have been able to take some positives from each run. He now gets his first go in handicap company from a mark of 63. It doesn’t look like he is thrown in by any stretch, but at the same time it is hopefully not completely unrealistic.
I feel as though the step up to seven-furlongs will suit, and if he breaks nicely from stall one, he should be able to utilise his speed and sit in a good position. The worry would be a repeat of his slow start at Wolverhampton last time, whilst he wasn’t fantastically well away at Yarmouth either, but he had shown a good deal of early pace on his debut at Salisbury.
The other obvious negative is the sheer competitiveness of the race. We are around 12/1 shots, but that seems to make us one of the rank outsiders! There are numerous horses like ours that rate as potential improvers in the line-up, whilst market principal Dancing Jo sets a very solid standard. It remains to be seen how well handicapped - or not - we are compared to our rivals, but we should learn plenty from today’s race one way or another. I would like to think he has a small each way chance, but all the racing on the AW in the early stages of this winter season is so furiously competitive, it is hard to be anything more than hopeful.
