Yes Can Do

Good morning from Newmarket! After a quiet couple of weeks we enjoyed a lovely change of fortune at Beverley yesterday, with a first, second and third. We aim to continue the good work at Yarmouth today with Yes Can Do in the 2.00, a six-furlong 0-60 handicap.

This filly is heading towards the last chance saloon though, having disappointed us with a mixture of poor performances and behavioural issues. She showed promise on her racecourse debut at Newmarket last August, finishing only six and a half lengths behind the very smart filly Shambolic. On that sort of form she would look well handicapped on a rating of just 57, but things have gone downhill in the meantime.

She refused to load at Yarmouth next time out, ran a lifeless race at Kempton following that, and then only improved on that effort marginally when ninth at Newmarket last backend. Those efforts earned her a rating of 61, though that has quickly been downgraded following a tailed off last at Chepstow on her seasonal reappearance.

The case for the defence lies in the fact that her saddle slipped and as a result her jockey was never in any sort of control at Chepstow, so she ran far too freely in front and ran herself to a virtual standstill inside the final furlong. That race was over seven, so we drop back a furlong and hope that there will be no repeat of her equipment issues. She has shown pace and travelled well on several occasions in her brief career, so hopefully the drop to a low grade sprint can prove the key to her. She deserves to be the big-priced outsider that she is, but hopefully she can outrun her odds and give us a little bit of hope for the future.

All the best,
Ed.
