Very successful Newmarket Open Day

Wed 26 September 2012

A multitude descended on the town on Sunday for what was the first Newmarket Open Day for quite some time to enjoy a unique insight into the world renowned horseracing facilities Newmarket has to offer. Visitors were strewn across the training capital, visiting the many trainers' yards and as well as seeing the horses and chatting with helpful and friendly stable staff, there was a whole range of other activities on offer. During the morning a number of famous facilities were open such as the National Horse Racing Museum and The National Stud and many trainers cantered their stable stars on Warren Hill to the excitement of many. Later in the day, all attention focused on the famous Rowley Mile racecourse where a host of activities were underway such as Trainers v Jockeys Go-Karting and Pony Club mounted games.

Here at La Grange we welcomed over 800 visitors who enjoyed meeting Snow Fairy (above) and Red Cadeaux and the yards stable stars were paraded for their adoring crowd throughout the morning, with Attheraces on hand to film proceedings. Demonstrations in farriery and hoof care took place, as well as a talk from our feed man about nutrition with helpful staff willing to answer any questions they could. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who came and visited us and supported the event as a whole.

Proceeds of the day went to three charities; East Anglia Air Ambulance, Racing Welfare and The New Astley Club and it looks set to be repeated next year. Julian Richmond-Watson, Chairman of the event commented, "after the success of the Newmarket Open Day and support of all those who attended and worked on the event we are delighted to be hosting it again in 2013.'
