Jockeys and Trainers Show Jumping practise
A muggy and overcast morning here in HQ and they are still watering on The Rowley Mile as we get closer to the next meeting here. I worked some horses on the Watered Gallop this morning during first lot and then I used the Al Bahathri during second lot. The ground on the Watered Gallop was beautiful and I was happy with how the horses went.
We ran four horses on Saturday, Carol ran very well when second in the one mile Fillies’ Maiden and she suggested she can win a race before the season is out. Shafafya was fifth at Haydock, she travelled very well before not picking up and it may be that the ground was too soft. Vivre Pour Vivre was disappointing at Wolverhampton but they went very slowly in the early stages and we will try him back on the turf on softer ground in the near future. Pantera Negra did not run her race up at Thirsk and was disappointing.
Qeyaadah is the first of our three runners today and he contests the 4:00 at Leicester over 7f. The trip and ground should be ideal for him and he ran well at Epsom when returning from a break. It is a competitive race and Musdam has been running as if this track will suit him. Cricklewood Green has been in extremely good form and Menai won last time out. In The Red would be dangerous if returning from his absence in the same form as 2015. We run two horses in the 4:35 7f Maiden that are both promising types who I hope will show some encouragement for the future. There looks to be two above average horses with a run under their belts who are at the top of the betting and it will take a very good newcomer to beat them. Both Elucidation and Zefferino should come on for their runs and it will take a newcomer running to a mark in the mid-eighties atleast to beat them.
We are getting very close to the Newmarket Open day and it was the first practise for those who are competing in the Jockeys and Trainers Show Jumping last night. There was a very good turnout and a lot of potential on display, some were asking for the fences to be raised higher and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. It promises to be a very competitive and fun event on Sunday 18th September.
