Miserable Day

It has been a thoroughly miserable day in Newmarket and we have had 30mm of rain since the early hours of this morning. Everyone worked very hard to keep the flood waters at bay and out of my house! I have now headed to Leicester and if the forecast is right I will get very wet in the Midlands too!!

Gloryette was our only runner yesterday and she ran a pleasing race in what was a very hot fillies’ maiden. She is a big filly who will strengthen as the year progresses.

We have four runners today starting with Apex King in the 2:00 at Leicester. He is by Kodiac and was a Breeze Up purchase, I like him but it looks like being a very hot race and I hope he performs with credit. Ode To Paris runs in the 4:30 at Leicester and the same applies with him, he is a Breeze Up purchase by Poet’s Voice who we like but it looks like a strong event.

Zamjar runs in the 6:10 at Wolverhampton, we expect him to come on for his debut but the Beckett horse ran with promise in a good race at Goodwood and Sidewinder and Conistone have shown promise, so it’s not an easy race. Kafoo runs in the 8:50 at Lingfield, he was disappointing last time but he did not face up to the blinkers and the ground deteriorated throughout the day at Bath. We hope he will run better back on the all-weather with the blinkers taken off.

It is exciting to be taking part in what will be the most valuable race ever run in great Britain on Saturday and there were no surprises yesterday with the four supplementary entries for The Derby  being made as expected. All of the horses expected to stand their ground did and it will be interesting to see what the going will be like come Saturday after today’s rain, it does look mainly dry in the days ahead but overcast with the chance of showers.
