Global Humor

Hello from Newmarket. A bit of real rain threatened to break out overnight, but we are back to warm temperatures today. We had runners all over the place yesterday and were perhaps a little bit unfortunate not to nick a winner. We go to the well again today with a brace of runners at Chelmsford and one at Thirsk this evening.

At Chelmsford we kick off with Moasher in the 2.50, a mile three-year-old plus novice. A slow learner, he finished well adrift on his debut at Newmarket in May. We go with low expectations today, but it is time for his second outing, so let’s hope for some encouragement. Eddie Greatrex is in the plate.

At 4.20 I will saddle Global Humor in a rather competitive looking three-year-old 0-85 handicap, also at Chelmsford. We are the outsider of the field of five, and all of our rivals look dangerous. However, Global Humor did nothing wrong at two, finishing third on debut at Newcastle and then winning a Wolverhampton novice from the now 85-rated Indomeneo. It is very difficult to gauge how well handicapped we are or not, but today’s race should be easier than the conditions event he ran in on his seasonal appearance at Newmarket. The average rating of the three in front of him that day is now 106, so we weren’t really entitled to be competitive. Gerald Mosse is riding this afternoon, and it will be interesting to see how we fit in at this level; I am hoping that we will see an improved performance.

Finally, in the 7.10 at Thirsk, Vision Clear is a runner in a mile and a half 0-75 handicap. I was delighted to hear that the track has had some rain recently, and the going is officially described as good. As a son of Soldier Hollow, getting that little bit of give in the ground is crucial, and he didn’t enjoy the quick ground or extended trip at Haydock last time out. His previous effort at Salisbury, when beaten a head, suggested that a mile and a half on good ground is his ideal ticket. Tom Eaves is riding and we hope for a decent effort.

All the best,
Ed.
