It is a beautiful morning here in HQ and it has been very enjoyable riding out on the heath but I fear that there won’t be too many days left like this after today. The wind is due to pick up again and there is still rain in the forecast at Ascot although it does not appear to be as much as predicted a couple of days ago.

Global Exceed did very well to win over 5f at Windsor yesterday, he was outpaced early on in the race and will improve for 6f. Sparte Quercus ran very well in the 10f handicap and was only just beaten a nose and a neck in third. Conflagration was never really involved but showed a little promise whilst Colourful Career was not beaten too far in third in the 1m Maiden and he is now eligible for handicaps.

Amplification ran very well in a strong Yarmouth Novice and he finished third behind two promising types. Capricious Cantor ran a stormer when finishing second in the Listed Beckford Stakes and King Kevin did not have the run of the race when finishing well to come third in the 1m2f handicap.

Blushing Red run in the 5:30 at Leicester today. I hope that some juice stays in the ground and ideally I would have liked it softer for him. He has some solid form on a softer surface and the track should suit him but I would be worried if it’s genuinely good ground rather than the good to soft advertised. Entangling does not have many miles on the clock and could remain well handicapped but it is a very open affair and if he can get his toe in a little he should run well. Dora’s Field is a filly I used to train and she appreciates a little give, she runs best fresh and back to a mark she has run well off twice before she could be interesting.
