Melodies

It is an overcast day here at HQ and we are due a lot of rain in the next forty eight hours, it will then hopefully be a little drier. The horses have been in good health recently and touch wood this can continue until the end of the season. We have plenty of two year olds to still run and it is looking like being a busy few days ahead.

Global Exceed and Sparte Quercus both won well yesterday, they both looked ahead of their marks and I hope there will be further improvement to come from them. Mutabaahy was a little free early on but he ran much better on second start and he shaped as though there is a race to be won with him. Carol made a pleasing reappearance from a break at Kempton, she ran a little fresh and the handicapper may have her a little bit but she shaped as though there is a little race to be won with her before the season is out.

We have three runners today at Salisbury and Chelmsford. Melodies runs in a strong looking 7f fillies’ Novice at 3:20. Clairette was fourth in a Newmarket Maiden that is working out very well and if she improves on that run today then she will be extremely hard to beat. Two of the other fillies that have run have also shown a good level of form and it will be a surprise if an unraced filly wins. Our filly is well bred and she has plenty of scope, I think she has ability but this is very much a starting point for her and she will only improve with time.

Opposition runs in the 1m4f handicap at 4:50. He needs to bounce back from a disappointing run at Newmarket and if he does then he has each way claims. He has run well on similar ground and so whilst we would have ideally liked slightly faster ground, he should handle it. The lightly raced three year olds head the market and Comrade Conrad looks to be the horse we all have to beat after running second to a useful sort last time.

Chocolate Account makes her handicap debut in the 7:10 this evening at Chelmsford. She has shown very little so far but has a very low mark as a consequence. The trip and track should suit her and it does look a very weak affair. Bradfield Magic sets the standard and the form of her second has been franked, so she looks the horse we have to beat. Poet’s Quest has shown very little on three starts like us but is unexposed and Circulate has ability but she has lost her way recently and needs to bounce back to form.
