Global Style

Excitement is building around Newmarket in anticipation of the opening Classics of the season and after the sunshine of Tuesday, the weather gods reminded us yesterday that rain is rarely far away.

Apex King’s run at Ascot was disappointing to say the least.  He seems to have lost his zest for racing at the moment, so am afraid it is back to the drawing board with him.

Today I send three runners on the long trek to Redcar with hopes of improved performances from all.  Mr Gent runs in a competitive looking Median Auction maiden at 3.10. While Mr Zheng’s 3yr old is the second highest rated of those with a handicap mark of 80, he faces stiff opposition in the form of Robsdelight (rated 86), well-bred newcomer Ekanse, and several potential improvers. However, this looks an ideal starting point to the turf season for Mr Gent and should be informative toward his future plans. Global Style runs in the 10f 3yr old handicap at 4.40. I last ran Dr Hon’s colt over 1m 5f at Chelmsford. After travelling well for much of the race under Gérald Mossé, his stamina appeared to ebb away in the final few furlongs. Josie Gordon takes the mount today, and I am hoping the intermediate trip will bring significant improvement.  Conflagration is our final runner of the day when he takes his chance in the 3yr old handicap at 5.10. Returning from a break, Mr. Hui’s gelding ran with some encouragement over 7f at Kempton, keeping on well in the latter stages to finish 6th. Danny Tudhope takes the mount.  Again, this looks a competitive affair with plenty of unexposed types in opposition, but I am hopeful the slightly stiffer-test at Redcar may unlock some further improvement.

 All the best,

Ed.
