Agar's Plough, who runs in the 4.00 at Newbury today

It has been another busy morning at La Grange as we prepare to send runners to Yarmouth and Newbury. We were out of luck with three runners yesterday, but hopefully we can do a little better today.

We get underway this afternoon with Qaswarah in the 3.40 at Yarmouth, a mile and a quarter handicap for fillies and mares.  Qaswarah won a Chepstow handicap over this trip last month in determined fashion, and the third has won since to boost the form. She can be excused her subsequent disappointment on account of the trip being too far, and we have declared her with a hood today in a bid to get back on track.

Twenty minutes later at Newbury we run Agar’s Plough in a seven-furlong handicap, in which he hopefully has each way claims. He very nearly won an Ascot maiden last year and has resumed in good form this season, finishing in the midfield in three competitive races. The handicapper has relented a little and this looks like his best opportunity for some time.

Also at Newbury we run Grandscape in the 4.35, a 13 runner mile and a half three-year-old handicap. It looks a competitive heat for the grade and therefore it is hard to be confident. However, this test on a galloping track looks to be exactly what Grandscape needs, and after just five starts he could yet progress a little more.

All the best,
Ed.
