Global Humor

A beautiful start to the day here at HQ although it has clouded over slightly since. It looks like the ground at Epsom will start on the top side of good for Oaks day and there may be a little rain around during the afternoon. We have had four Japanese riders here this morning as part of a trip organised by the JRA and we will have five more tomorrow, they seemed to enjoy themselves and our setup here is very different to what they are used to in Japan.

Mulzim was very unlucky on Tuesday, we are going through one of those spells at the moment and he was beaten by a nose at Lingfield. His head was in front just before the line and just after the line but unfortunately he was behind on the line itself. We will have to take our punishment from the handicapper but he is progressing nicely and I hope he can be competitive off of his new mark which will be a good deal higher. Global Exceed was fifth at Wolverhampton and he showed a glimmer of ability, he will now be eligible for Nurseries. Mutabaahy missed the break at Leicester and was never able to get competitive and I hope he will show more next time with the run under his belt.

We have four runners today at three different meetings. Arnarson disappointed last time at Epsom but Ryan said he hated the track. We have given him a break to freshen him up as he had a long Winter and he is back on the all-weather where he has run his best races over the Winter. He is well drawn in stall one and we have put some cheek pieces on him to help him concentrate. The drop back to 6f is a slight concern but he does show us speed at home and this looked an easier contest than the 7f races he was entered in. World Power ran well last time and probably ran to a mark in the mid-seventies and Always Amazing is well bred and has been well backed for the Robert Cowell yard.

Weloof runs in the 15:50 at Wolverhampton and he was impressive on his last start over course and distance. It’s a very competitive race for the grade unfortunately but he is in good form and this looked the best option for him. Pavillon is a progressive filly who beat a nice horse last time and is the deserved favourite. Me Too Nagasaki showed a good attitude when winning on heavy ground at Doncaster and he broke his Maiden on the all-weather at Kempton so the surface should not prove to be a problem. Mukalal won very well last time, Dowayla disappointed after a promising debut but she has been backed despite her wide draw. We have a good draw and are hopeful he will run well but this will be a race to record as there look to be some progressive types in the field.

Global Humor runs up at Newcastle in the 7:20. He is a Breeze Up purchase that we think a lot of. His work on the all-weather surface has been good and I therefore would expect him to handle the surface tonight. My two year-olds do improve for the run and we are taking on a Richard Fahey horse that has his penalty offset, who has shown a good level of ability in Almane. He also runs an unraced Showcasing filly Sosian who should be respected given how well his two-year olds are running. We will be disappointed if our horse does not run very well this evening but he will improve on what he shows this evening next time.

Enola runs in the 3:40 at Lingfield. She has a bad draw in stall ten and she will be one who benefits a fair deal from her first experience on a racecourse. The race looks a suitable starting point given that she gets a weight allowance given her Auction value. I hope she can show us some promise but Desert Explorers sets a reasonable standard and has three pounds taken off his back and for an in form stable he looks the horse to beat.
