Cafoo

You could be forgiven for thinking we were still in February this morning as it has been very cold and damp at Headquarters. The BHA have done very well to get the Newbury card transferred across to Chelmsford and although there are only three runners in the Greenham, it was important to get the Trials run. It is obviously unsatisfactory that they are on the all-weather but given the recent horrific weather it is the best of the limited options available. It does mean that there is a very thin field for the Spring Cup which is a crying shame but the blame has to lie with the Great British weather! Let’s hope that the drier weather forecast predicted for next week materialises.

We have two runners tonight at Wolverhampton with Cafoo making his debut and Inniscastle Lad making his debut for us. Cafoo is a well bred son of Makfi who looks like he wants this sort of trip and will improve like all of mine, for the run. Inniscastle Lad was bought at the Tattersalls October Horses In Training sale as a lead horse and a ride for the Apprentices. The trip of eight furlongs is an unknown with him and he is hard to gauge as he is extremely lazy at home, Harry Burns takes the ride and I hope we will learn something new about him after tonight.

Mouse Morris goes for a hat-trick of major national wins up at Ayr today and there would be no one who deserves it more should he pull off such a momentous achievement. To win an Irish National and a Grand National in the same season is almost impossible in itself so to add the Scottish equivalent too would be remarkable. Folsom Blue was fourth at Fairyhouse in the Irish National and the slightly extra distance here will suit, the more rain that falls the better his chances will be.
