Hazarfan

We have had a relatively dry morning here at HQ and I would expect the ground at Newmarket to be beautiful today. There is a wind that will continue to gradually dry it out and whilst it remains overcast we are unlikely to get much rain before racing.

King Kevin ran much better when third at Chelmsford on Thursday night and Global Angel found the 10f Novice too difficult, he will be more competitive now he is eligible for Nurseries.

We run three horses today at Newmarket and Wolverhampton. Hazarfan runs in the 1m Novice at 13:30. He is a son of Frankel who I like but he is a laid back horse at home and I think this run will bring him on considerably. Old Persian sets a good standard and he did well to win as convincingly as he did in a solid race at Chelmsford given he was forced wide. Gronkowski shaped with a deal of promise on his debut and the mile trip looks sure to suit him whilst Wilfred Owen and Courtside are interesting newcomers. Even with the two non-runners this looks like the strongest division of the two 1m Novice events and I hope our colt can run with promise and give us something to build on for the future.

Al Nafoorah runs this evening in an extended one mile fillies’ handicap at 19:45. She would have been closer last time with a clear run at Sandown and she would have a little each way chance this evening. Song Maker was eye catching last time and she is the horse we all have to beat. Sir Gnet runs in an open looking handicap at 20:15. His first try at 1m4f was a disaster as he was trapped in the pack in a slowly run affair and it turned into a sprint for home. We drew a line through that run and we still believe he can improve for this 12f trip. He has decent each way claims as he has shown a liking for Wolverhampton and there should be a more even gallop this evening. Singular Quest and Ode To Glory are just two of the dangers but I hope he runs well.
