Cue's Folly

It has been another bright and sunny start to the day at HQ with humans and horses enjoying the morning exercise all the more in such glorious conditions. We are starting to become accustomed to riding out without being dashed with wind and rain, but knowing the great British summer, the water proofs will not be packed away just yet.

Expectations were slightly dashed with the performances from our runners yesterday. At Newmarket, Global Spirit ran well, racing prominently until the lack of a recent run told as he tired coming out of the dip. Global Giant had a similar experience when he too raced prominently until tiring inside the final furlong. He too was having his first run off an extended break, and I am confident both will improve for their runs and I will be expecting improved performances from both next time out. Amazing Red ran his usual game race and could be considered a little unlucky not to finish closer. He was denied a clear passage as the pace was lifting going into the dip, and Fran Berry was forced to switch around runners. This cost momentum at a vital time in the race, with little or no time to respond. Such is racing, and there will be plenty more opportunities ahead for Red to gain compensation. At Newbury, Global Applause was disappointing and did not show anything like his best form. He was in trouble a long way from home and ran way below his ability. We will have him checked out and give him a few days on the easy list.

It is a quieter despatch from La Grange today with just Cue’s Folly leaving the yard to compete at Newmarket in the 1m4f ‘Betway Fillies' Novice Stakes’ (5.00).  She has found life tough on the racecourse thus far and seemed unsuited by the track at Lingfield last start. She may be up against it again today among this company, but she needs the experience and after today she will be eligible for a BHA rating, and this will help us find her level.

All the best

Ed
