Sporting Times

Good morning from a sunny Newmarket. The July meeting concludes with another fabulous day’s racing, though it is a quiet one for us here at La Grange as we will be sending out just a single runner.

The horse in question is Sporting Times, who bids to improve upon his third place finish last year in the Saeed Suhail Handicap, a mile and a half contest set to go off at 4.30. He is rated just a pound higher this time around on 83, and it would be nice to think that he is an improved horse in the meantime. He had a wind procedure over the winter, which was followed by one slightly disappointing run when the string was under a cloud. He bounced right back to form when edged out by a head at Kempton on his latest start, and he gets another furlong to race over today, which promises to suit. The only jockey to have won on him so far is James Doyle, and he is back in the plate today. Although this is a competitive little race, with some luck, we ought to be there or thereabouts and there should be no excuses in terms of trip/ground/track. Fingers crossed!

All the best,
Ed.
