Horses Changing over last Friday.

I thought that both the 1000 and the 2000 Guineas were strong renewals this year and I thoroughly enjoyed the racing here over the weekend. Churchill could not have planned his namesake’s journey better on Saturday and he was in the perfect position to strike and found plenty on the near-side rail. He won a shade cosily but there was plenty of encouragement to be found in the efforts of both the second and third and Lancaster Bomber ran a solid race in fourth. Winter galloped strongly to the line and would have been hard to pass even if Rhododendron had got a clear passage. The third filly Daban ran well and possibly did not see out the final furlong whilst Talaayeb ran a very encouraging race in fourth given she was a little isolated on only her second ever run. I was delighted to see Frontiersman win given he is a son of Ouija Board and he should be getting some Black Type very soon.

Qaaraat ran well in the 5f Havana Gold Maiden when finishing third. I think he will progress as the season goes on and I am hoping it was a good race. The winner looked a nice type beforehand and we will try and find a small race for him now before raising our sights with him.

We run Kafoo in the last at Chelmsford tonight. He ran very well last time and travelled sweetly before not staying the 1m2f trip. He is not ideally drawn in stall seven but he jumps very well and Ben Robinson is good value for his seven pound claim. I hope he can run well in what is a very open looking contest.
