Helian

Good morning from Newmarket! We are greeted by scorching temperatures today, which is lovely for us humans but not ideal for some of my runners this week who need a little ease in the ground! Having had so much soft ground in recent weeks I hope we are not going to be thwarted by the weather, although there are some thundery showers forecast tonight and tomorrow which could come to our rescue.

One horse who falls into the category of needing good, safe ground is Helian, who has his third outing in the 3.00 at Chepstow this afternoon. He finished down the field on his debut at Chelmsford, before running a good race to take third at Nottingham last week. It was encouraging how he ran through the line on that occasion, and it hinted at better to come.

In truth, he is only really likely to find his feet once handicapping, and he might want further in time, whilst this is a strong-looking race today. However, Chepstow are holding onto some good ground, so I would like to think this is an ideal spot for his next run, and hopefully we will see another step forward. George Wood takes the ride.

All the best,
Ed.
