Dark Red

Good morning from Newmarket. It was a delight that we returned to winning ways over the weekend, and we kick start an exciting few days with Dark Red at Windsor this evening.

The old boy is scheduled to take his chance in the mile and a quarter 0-90 handicap at 7.00, but we will be watching the weather closely between now and race time. He needs good ground or softer to show his best, and the going description has been updated to good to firm overnight. With showers in the area it is hoped that we might just get away with it, but we will be taking a view after the first couple of races and if it is not safe for him we will not take any risks.

The race that presents itself does, however, look like a good opportunity. Dark Red has steadily come down the weights in recent times, but placed efforts at Chelmsford, Chester and Newmarket on three of his last four starts have suggested that he might be ready to capitalise on his rating of 90 soon. He was paired with Adam Kirby for the first time at Newmarket just over a fortnight ago and they posted a very good third place finish. Tonight’s race is one in which all seven runners have decent prospects on paper but hopefully Dark Red will not be far away - provided underfoot conditions allow him to put his best foot forward.

All the best,
Ed.
