Justice First

Early on in the morning we were shrouded in an icy mist but the skies have cleared and the temperatures have risen slightly. Despite the thick fog I am pleased to say that everyone returned safe and sound. Bart Hellyer joined me on the heath to see the two horses he has a share in, Fun Money and Zauffaly.

We have had a young French lady riding out for us over the last couple of days. Manon is 17 and she has come over from France for a week to discover Newmarket as  part of her studies. She attends the French jockey school and her course interestingly spans over a three year period. The course involves working for two weeks for a trainer and then going back to the school for two weeks each month. There are also stable management exams that she has to undertake. Over in France they  also have what they call school races to help bring the potential jockeys of the future on and she has finished third in her only appearance at Chantilly. It has been a pleasure to have her for the last two days and I wish her every success in the future.

It was fantastic to see Manjaam stick his head down when it mattered and prevail by a neck at Chelmsford last night. I hope he can progress again from here and I will most likely save him for a turf campaign now. We are heading back to Chelmsford tonight with Justice First. There is once more decent prize money on offer. This race looks easier than the last one he contested and he looks to have a favourite's chance.
