Same Jurisdiction

Winter very much brightened up Goodwood yesterday with an authoritative display in the Nassau Stakes. We have been lucky to see two very good fillies race within a week of each other and their ability to handle any going marks them out as exceptional. We were able to use the grass today and the ground was absolutely perfect after a drying wind had done its job. Newmarket’s ground this evening should be close to good if we miss the rain today and then tomorrow’s ground depends on what time the rain arrives

Wealth Tax won very well at Nottingham and revelled in the soft ground, this was only his second run on turf and first over the trip. It was not a strong race but he looks to be improving. We have entered him in two races next week and with the ground looking like it may dry out, he could go back on the all-weather with a penalty.

We have two runners today starting with Same Jurisdiction in The L’Ormarins Queens Plate Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Our mare shaped as if she needed to drop back to 7f after running over a Mile in the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot. She ran well on a softer surface at Leicester on penultimate start and we hope she can acquit herself well this afternoon on what will be difficult ground for all the runners. The track should suit her and with so many non-runners the draw does not look as difficult as it did at declaration time. Most of the fillies still remaining should handle the ground but Eternally returns from a long layoff and the ground is far from ideal for her on her seasonal debut. Sainted is progressing, Tomyris drops in class and Perfect Angel will love the ground. We are up against it but I am looking forward to running her.

Zamjar returns from a break this evening at Newmarket. He has had a gelding operation and on his homework he would have a decent each way chance tonight. Firefright is improving and shapes as if this drop to 6f will cause him no issues and he is a deserved favourite but we don’t have much to find with the others if our gelding returns to form. He has disappointed here before but he ran as if he needed a break that day and the ground will be drying all the time in this breeze which will be in his favour. He did come on for his run when he returned from a break last time but that race was run into a fierce headwind at Chelmsford and I wouldn’t expect conditions to be anywhere near as arduous this evening.
