Destination Our Only Runner on Derby Day

Sat 01 June 2019

Global Destination

Good morning from Newmarket on Derby day! Unfortunately we are not in action at Epsom - our activities are confined to the last at Lingfield - though we will of course have our eyes peeled on the great race like everyone else and I hope we see a great spectacle.

Our solitary runner is Global Destination in the seven-furlong 0-65 handicap at 8.45. This son of Slade Power showed a good bit of promise on his only outing last year at Yarmouth, but then disappointed us when he could finish only fourth on his reappearance at Newcastle in late February.

That race was probably a little stronger than we realised at the time, but Global Destination could not improve on the effort when only seventh at Wolverhampton a few weeks later. That was his third run, and therefore qualified him for a mark and he was subsequently allotted a rating of 67.

It is difficult to gauge exactly how well handicapped he is based on that figure, though hopefully it is not too far away from a rating from which he can be competitive. We have since gelded Global Destination and given him a wind operation, so hopefully these little procedures can allow him to step forward. This is probably not a particularly strong race and we have to hope that we will see some encouragement this evening. Tom Queally takes the mount.

All the best,
Ed.
