On Friday 21st July 2-year-old SKUKUZA made an eye-catching debut over 7f at Newbury eventually finishing a very good second to odds-on favourite Warm Spell. Skukuza jumped smartly and looked professional on the front end before being challenged seriously only by the subsequent winner while staying on in second.
This homebred son of Blue Point is owned by Mrs Rupert and Cayton Park Stud, from a family that Ed is especially familiar with. He trained Skukuzas’ dam, Shingwedzi, during her short spell on UK soil after she was placed at Group level in South Africa. Her lightly raced 3 year-year-old gelded son Letaba, by Muhaarar, is also in training here with us at La Grange.
Skukuza looks to be an exciting prospect for Mrs Rupert and we are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year can bring for him.
