Red For All

Good morning from Newmarket. We have our first runner of the week today, when Red For All takes his chance in the two-year-old maiden over an extended mile at Epsom at 2.45.

A son of Muhaarar, he is out of the Cadeaux Genereux mare All For Laura. She was an extremely speedy individual when trained by David Loder, rating 97 at her best and excelling at five and six-furlongs. Her best progeny to date is another fast animal, namely the 2009 Cherry Hinton heroine and Cheveley Park runner-up Misheer.

So, given that he is by a sprinter and out of a sprinter, it might seem a little strange that Red For All finds himself racing over a mile and half a furlong on just his second career appearance! However, we have previous experience of the family as I train his year older half-brother Global Express, who actually started off over a mile at two and stays middle distances.

Red For All made his debut over seven and a half furlongs at Lingfield two and a half weeks ago, and was able to defy his obvious greenness to take a running-on fourth. That looked a reasonably warm contest, and hopefully normal improvement should see him run a solid race this afternoon. As with any horse going to Epsom, the track is a bit of a concern, and there are plenty of dangerous rivals too. However, this horse has the makings of a good, fun type and I think he is more than ready for his second taste of action. Hopefully he can be reasonably competitive once again. Tom Marquand takes the mount.

All the best,
Ed.
