Off To Pastures New

Amazing Red With Skye GIlbert

Here at Ed Dunlop Racing we believe it is paramount that we find good homes for our racehorses once they have retired. This month three of our ex stable stars have gone off to pastures new after being very successful horses on the track.

Amazing Red is a horse very close to my heart being the half brother to my champion Red Cadeaux. He raced 51 times in a career spanning nine years, winning 7 races and over £140,000 in prize money. We decided to retire him at the end of last season as we felt he wasn’t quite hitting the heights of his glory days. He has now been rehomed only 10 minutes down the road with his ex-work rider Skye Gilbert and is learning to jump and be a general purpose riding horse. Skye says “He is doing great and is still loving his work”

Another horse we recently rehomed is Alternative Fact. A talented miler he won 3 races for us and over £60,000 in prize money. The highlight of his career came when finishing second at Royal Ascot in the Silver Hunt Cup. He retired at the end of last season having run creditably all year. He has moved up to Durham now where he is living on an Estate and is set to become the hack for the Estates Owner.

The final horse to retire is the legend which is Red Verdon, a horse who I owe a great deal to. The winner of no less than 10 races and over £800,000 in prize money, Red Verdon really earned his name as my stable star for a good few seasons. His career highlight came when winning a Group 2 in France under a brilliant ride from Frankie Dettori. We decided at the end of last season to retire him as we felt his wasn’t quite performing to the incredibly high standards which he used to operate at. He is still in the yard but is about to depart to become a riding horse for a family friend of mine.

These three horses I owe a great deal to and I am delighted that we have managed to find them three excellent homes.
