Letaba breaks his maiden

Thu 21 December 2023

Having got very close on a number of occasions this year it was pleasing to see Letaba get his nose across the line in front for owner breeder Mrs Gaynor Rupert and Cayton Park Stud.

This 3-year-old gelded son of Muhaarar had been a little frustrating this season, showing ability at home and not quite being able to put it together on the racecourse. However, he changed this when winning at Chelmsford over 1m2f, under Rossa Ryan, earlier this month. He is big and scopey individual that has really taken time to mature and now will surely have more wins to come.

Letaba hails from a family that Ed knows well, having trained his mother Shingwedzi during her short racing career on English soil. We are also looking forward to seeing Letabas' younger sibling, Blue Point colt Skukuza, on the track next season as a 3-year-old having shown promise on 2 starts this year.

Congratulations to connections including his rider at home Harriet Shirra.
