Maqaadeer

Good afternoon from Newmarket! The wonderful racing continues at Royal Ascot today, and it is impossible to write today’s blog without mention of Frankie’s efforts yesterday. An astonishing achievement from a remarkable man.

Our interest today is confined to the 6.45 at Newmarket, division one of the three-year-old 0-70 mile handicap. Our representative Maqaadeer is a talented sort, who works particularly well at home, but we are still searching for a solution as to how to get the best out of him on track.

His two-year-old form was promising, and his comeback second at Lingfield was a step in the right direction. However, his progress has plateaued with fourth place finishes at Chelmsford and Redcar. Last time out his rider reported that the ground was too fast and the mile and a quarter trip was a stretch, so as a result we are back to a mile today and thankful that we are racing on officially good to soft ground.

Perhaps the most critical point to note is that he has been gelded since his last run. He seems to have really done well for the procedure, and I am hoping it will allow him to find a few extra pounds of improvement. There are of course several unexposed sorts that could improve past us, but we know this horse has the ability to be very competitive, so hopefully today can be his day. Dane O'Neill takes the ride.

All the best,
Ed.
