It is coming to that time of year when we look back at the season that has been and analyse what we can try and do the following year to better it. 2020 has, for obvious reasons, been an incredibly difficult year for each and every one of us and it has definitely affected our season’s stats with almost three months missing at the crucial start of it all.
There were however lots of success stories to note. This included the likes of Toro Dorado, Roca Magica, Snow Fairy’s daughter Virgin Snow, Red Verdon, and a few exciting two year olds for the future.
The early months of 2020 saw the rise of two all-weather superstars in Roca Magica and Toro Dorado winning 5 races each this year - a remarkable achievement in itself. They have really earned their stripes and are legends in their own right, showing you don’t have to be a superstar to win races.
Virgin Snow, our Gleneagles filly out of globetrotting wonder mare Snow Fairy, started the turf season off with a bang when winning at Haydock cosily under Jim Crowley. She has since then gone on to be Stakes placed on no fewer than three occasions and looks the type to progress even more as a four year old.
Red Verdon once again showed why he has been such a valiant servant to my yard over the years and produced two very classy performances in Stakes company. Firstly at Doncaster, where under a strong ride from David Allan he galloped clear to win the Listed Grand Cup Stakes and then under the hands of the master tactician Frankie Dettori, he won his first Group Two. He quickened clear of a classy field in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil, thus making it two wins from his first two starts for the year. He continued on a rich vein of form and never put in a bad performance - he will be back again next year to try and further his career’s accolades.
Finally, we must mention a few of our promising types for the New Year. These include the likes of maiden winner Lenny’s Spirit, the potentially smart stayer Arthur’s Realm, and of course John Leeper (Frankel X Snow Fairy) who put in a very promising performance at Doncaster first time out.
