Global Art Paints A Winning Picture

Wed 29 August 2018

Global Art

Our decent spell of form continued at Chelmsford yesterday as Global Art ran out a convincing winner of the 0-70 mile handicap for three-year-olds under Gerald Mosse.

Global Art was drawn six off the rail, and after Fabianski made a bee line for the lead, he was stuck out widest of all in the early stages, and spent much of the journey without cover. Around three furlongs from home, Gerald asked Global Art to circle the field and he had quickened past the duelling Fabianski and Optimum Time just under two furlongs from home. A couple of taps with the whip were delivered to keep him up to his work, and Global Art ran on strongly through the line to deliver a convincing two-and-three-quarter length success. He gave the impression that he won with a bit to spare.

The victory was a relief for all concerned, as Global Art had promised to get off the mark much sooner. He showed a bit of ability on his only start last year, and was doing good work in maidens earlier this season. It is possible that a mile and a quarter had stretched him on his three starts prior to Chelmsford, as he is by Dutch Art out of a very speedy Kheleyf mare, and most of her near relations were suited by trips up to a mile but not beyond. On the other hand, you would be happy to step Global Art up in trip based on the way he stormed through the line yesterday. It is also possible that a return to the AW was a benefit, as he had finished third on Tapeta earlier this year, although there is little reason at this stage to believe that he won’t also be effective on turf. Perhaps the first time blinkers were the key to the victory.

The handicapper will surely have his say now, but it would be disappointing if Global Art cannot at least be competitive from a new mark in the mid-70s.

We send our warmest congratulations to Global Art’s owner Dr Hon and thank all the staff in the yard for their continued hard work. Although we have been a little light on ‘Global’ winners this season, the huge run from Global Giant in the Gr.3 Winter Hill Stakes on Saturday signalled that fortunes are improving, and yesterday’s victory merely reinforces that view. We have plenty more ‘Global’ horses left to run this season, and hopefully there is a winner or two amongst them!
