29-05-2009 Wasan wins in good style
WASAN is likely to come under consideration for next month’s Royal Ascot meeting after a smart success in a 1m 2f conditions race at Lingfield yesterday afternoon (May 28).
Trainer Ed Dunlop’s charge showed his York reappearance run to be all wrong as he easily overcame his rivals in the £13,500 event.
The son of Pivotal was settled on the heels of the leaders by jockey Richard Hills in a race where they went a decent early gallop.
As the six-runner field entered the straight Hills got the perfect split up the inner rail and his mount quickened up in good style.
Wasan, owned by Sheikh Hamdan, surged clear inside the final furlong winning and eventually had four and a half lengths to spare at the line.
The 11/4 success was Wasan’s fifth triumph in eight career starts and it would be little surprise if connections gave thought to running him the Listed Wolferton Stakes at Ascot.
