Although Ed Dunlop Racing was lightly represented at Royal Ascot, the horses continued to fly the flag throughout the country last week.
Fareer won his Maiden at Doncaster last Sunday, on just his second racecourse outing. Partnered by Martin Dwyer, this attractive son of Bahamian Bounty tracked the leaders before taking up the lead inside the final furlong. Although he still looked a little green when he hit the front, he went on to win by just over a length.
He is a colt that we hold in high regards here at Ed Dunlop Racing and we hope that he can progress later on in the year, especially when he gets some juice in the ground.

Dear Maurice followed up his Maiden win with another win at Windsor last Monday. Ryan Moore was on board the colt, who was held up in midfield before being switched wide three furlongs out. He took up the lead a furlong out and was pushed out to the line to win by almost two lengths. This was a good performance from Dear Maurice as the ground was probably a little lively for him. He looks sure to appreciate a step up in trip but life is going to get tougher for him especially now that the Handicapper has put him up 13lb for his two wins.

Wasan continues to look like a horse with a bright future when he won the Joseph, Jake And Ella Woods Handicap at Haydock on Saturday evening. He led the field over the mile trip before quickening away from them to win comfortably from Goodbye Mr Bond. This was Wasan’s third career victory from just four starts and he continues to impress us with each run. All being well he will head to Newmarket, where there are a couple of options over a mile and ten furlongs for him. However, he is a horse who likes to get his toe in and we will not run him if the ground is too firm.

King Charles put in a gallant effort at Royal Ascot on Saturday, when he was third in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes. Trying the mile and a half trip for the first time, King Charles was held up in midfield by his jockey, Kieran McEvoy before being switched wide two furlongs out. He ran on strongly inside the final furlong but could not quite reach the leaders and finished third, beaten two lengths. He is, without doubt one of the most consistent horses in the yard and we hope that he can win a big Handicap before the end of the year.

Hip won her Maiden on her only start at two years and so we were a little disappointed with her seasonal debut at Newbury last month, where she could only finish ninth. After this race she was given a short break and given plenty of time to come to herself. This seems to have had the desired effect, as she ran a cracking race at Newmarket on Saturday in a mile fillies Handicap. She travelled in behind the leaders before laying down her challenge a furlong out. She briefly got her head in front but did not quite stay the mile and she finished in third place. This was a good effort and we hope she will be back to her winning ways before too long.
