Silhouettes on Warren Hill.

Quite warm and pleasant this morning.

Two runners at Lingfield this afternoon. Mulhaam kicks us off in the seven furlong maiden and while we are not sure he will handle heavy ground, the race looks pretty desperate on paper so we thought we should have a crack. He didn’t appreciate the drop back to six at Doncaster last time, but he had previously shaped with promise at Chepstow in a fair race and he has a decent draw. The support for Napoleon Solo is interesting.

Field Of Light returns to the all-weather for the mile and a half maiden and he ran his best race over course and distance, finishing second behind one of Harry’s that has won another two since. We think this is his trip – he ran on again at Newcastle – and we have replaced blinkers with cheekpieces. If the market is correct, Sneaking Budge might be the one to beat.

No declarations for Friday but six entries for Leicester on Wednesday including Fieldsman, who we could run again before he suffers a likely rise for his Yarmouth second. God Willing is in the same race.

The Caulfield Cup weights were released this morning and both Red Cadeaux and Trip To Paris have been allotted 55kgs. That puts us 3kgs off top weights Protectionist and Snow Sky, while we would receive 2kgs from antepost Cup favourite Fame Game and my old horse Contributer. Trip To Paris would have to concede 1.5kgs to Quest For More, just over half a pound less than he did at Goodwood, so the pair would be pretty tightly matched again if the handicapper is correct.

Best of luck to James Toller, who recently he announced he would be retiring at the end of the season. There are plenty of trainers with much bigger strings who won’t manage to train a Classic winner.

Finally, Rose returns to Tudor Hall this afternoon while Martha starts life there tomorrow. The summer is officially over.
