The string in the fog.

Wet and miserable and the rain has been pretty persistent.

Harry joined us for first lot as we worked nine up the short gallop in the gloom. Freddie Freedman was also out on the Heath to see his New Approach filly, Social Media.

I was back at Tattersalls early on having purchased three lots yesterday. We took home a filly by Exchange Rate and colts by Exceed And Excel and first-season sire Mayson. It wasn’t easy to buy with trade so hot and we are probably in for a similar story this afternoon.

We saddle one runner this afternoon as Opposition makes his second start in the mile maiden at Nottingham. The penny really dropped for him in the last couple of furlongs at Newbury and he should be more streetwise today, although as a strapping son of Dalakhani he will really come into his own next year. This looks a maiden full of similar middle-distance prospects and the Hugo Palmer-trained Mengli Khan will be tough to beat.

Three declarations for Friday. Sharaakah will line-up in the Oh So Sharp Stakes under Joe Fanning while Field Of Light (Oisin Murphy) and Mulhaam (Martin Harley) head to Wolverhampton.

Finally, Order Of St George was ruled out of a trip to Melbourne this morning, which is a blow to the race but removes one of our key opponents. The Cup is getting closer!
