Iffraaj ex Dawaama. £27k DBS purchase for sale to stay in training.

Wet, wet, wet.

A productive day at Doncaster yesterday yielded four purchases on what was a strong afternoon of trade. Three are for current clients but I bought one on spec (Lot 226) with Matt Coleman and she is very much for sale to stay in training here at La Grange!

By  Iffraaj, sire of Wooton Bassett, Chriselliam and Rizzena, she is out of a Dansili half-sister to Group 2 Prix de Sandringham winner Baqah, who in turn has produced recent Group 3 winner Almanaar.

She is an attractive, racy filly who walked well around the ring. I like Iffraaj as a stallion and the bottom-half of her pedigree made her a quality buy for £27,000. She looks an early type who should provide plenty of fun in the spring. Please do get in touch if you would be interested in buying.

Two runners today although we will be monitoring the ground at Bath for Rock Lobster. They are due more rain before racing and we will be consulting jockeys after the first couple of contests. It would be good to run him – he’s 3lb well-in under a penalty – and this looks a moderate race, but we probably wouldn’t do so on very testing ground.

Hajeer will certainly line-up in the seven furlong nursery at Lingfield. This was due to be run on the grass but was switched to the all-weather after the torrential rain, leading to the defection of a couple of likely sorts. The layers have made us favourite following our Kempton third – the second has won since – and we have put cheekpieces on to help in the middle section of the race. Stall nine is a pain but this looks very winnable.

One declaration for Friday with Shafafya – a Sheikh Hamdan-owned daughter of Shamardal – set to debut in division two of the seven furlong fillies’ maiden at Newmarket.

Back tomorrow.
