Cold again this morning and the rain has arrived, with the forecasters predicting a good couple of millimetres which should help the ground ahead of the weekend.

An easy day after yesterday’s work morning for the older horses, although we did take some of our more precocious juveniles to the Al Bahathri third lot. The six furlong maidens are on the horizon.

Derek Whipp, the recently-retired head teacher of South Lee School, made his first visit to La Grange this morning. All three of our daughters – Emily, Rose and Martha – enjoyed many happy years at South Lee, and as a gesture of putting up with them all, we have gifted Derek a share in our ex Grand Lucre filly.

Derek is a newcomer to racing ownership, but he seemed to enjoy his time here and we hope to provide him with some entertainment in life beyond the classroom.

No runners, decs or entries today in what is proving an unseasonably quiet week. We await Saturday with bated breath!

We were delighted to receive the following photograph yesterday, which pictures Snow Fairy’s filly foal by Elusive Pimpernel two months after her arrival. The most gorgeous-looking horse, she has made excellent progress thus far and we will keep you up to speed with her development.

Finally, Red Cadeaux is due to arrive back in the yard on Friday and we cannot wait to welcome him home. Steve returned to normality here this morning and Robin is due back with Cads, although my longstanding travelling head lad is in for a small shock in regards to Range Rover he drives, which is his pride and joy.

After a minor collision shortly before he left for Australia, Robin instructed the vehicle to be repaired for his return, but the mechanics have obviously let the work-experience student loose on the damage, with the ordering of “Range” and “Rover” having proved a little troublesome!

I will let you know how Robin takes the news, although his response is unlikely to be publishable on here.
