Light Of India

Good afternoon from Newmarket. I will be rushing across from Newmarket to Chelmsford so that I can see both of my runners today. We are not to the forefront of the betting in either race, I am looking forward to it nonetheless!

We kick off with Light Of India in the 2.00 at Newmarket. A daughter of Sepoy, she has really lacked pace in two outings so far. It was always a struggle for her at Chelmsford last time out, but she will have learned plenty from the experience. She is highly unlikely to trouble the principals in this seven-furlong novice today, but hopefully she will come on again for the outing, and looks a handicapping prospect for next year over further.

Our second runner is Toro Dorado in the mile nursery at 5.25 at Chelmsford. This son of Toronado has probably been crying out for a step up in trip, as he is out of a mare that stayed middle distances well. He was running a good race at Newcastle on his third start, but was badly hampered mid-race and consequently trailed in well back. That meant he needed a fourth run to get a rating, and he did so when running reasonably well over six-furlongs at Yarmouth. His opening mark of 64 looks neither lenient nor harsh – but we hope that he can be fairly competitive from it should the longer trip bring about the expected improvement. This is a warm enough heat for the grade though, and I notice we already have one non-runner bringing the field down to eight runners. Should we remain at that number, then I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes close to justifying each way support. I look forward to seeing how he gets on.

Enjoy the racing,
Ed.
