Manjaam

Good morning from Newmarket. We are gearing up for a manic few days with lots of runners, but we have just one this afternoon.

Manjaam tries his luck over two miles for a second time in the 4.15 at York, a 0-105 handicap. This horse has been a grand campaigner for us, but a feeling that he is at or very near the ceiling of his mark, has led me to trying him over two miles in a bid to try and find a fraction more improvement. His first outing at the distance, in the Shergar Cup at Ascot a week and a half ago, strongly suggested that he stayed the distance, as he plugged on dourly from the back to take fifth. It has encouraged us to continue the experiment, and as a previous course winner at York, this looked like an obvious race to target. This is a tremendously competitive contest of course, but we are lucky to have the excellent Danny Tudhope booked, and I hope we can outrun our odds and go reasonably well.

All the best,
Ed.
