Inspirational

Good morning from Newmarket! You know that the flat season is beginning to move into full swing when the Craven meeting gets underway, and we are busy planning and making entries for a large number of our string in the coming days and weeks. We are relatively quiet ourselves at Newmarket itself, but there is a real buzz to the town as the season ‘proper’ gets started.

We do have one runner this afternoon, however, namely Inspirational in the Wood Ditton at 2.25. A daughter of Slade Power, she is a sibling of the speedy Listed-placed pair Spy Ring and Snap Shots. She has not demonstrated herself to be as precocious as either of those two horses, and has just needed a little more time before making her racecourse debut. I think this is in keeping with a lot of Slade Power’s stock, and hopefully he will do significantly better this year than last.

Inspirational’s dam Refuse To Give Up is a half-sister to my former high-class Matron and Sun Chariot Stakes winning miler Independence,  who has herself gone on to produce Eclipse winners and St Leger placed horses - so there is more stamina in the family than you might imagine at first glance. Inspirational has started to blossom and come in her coat in recent weeks, and her work lately has encouraged me that she is ready for a racecourse introduction. The Wood Ditton, being for newcomers only, looks the ideal place to get her started and it is conveniently located close to home of course. Hopefully we will see some encouragement this afternoon, though she is sure to improve plenty for the run and the experience. Daniel Muscutt will be in the plate.

All the best,
Ed.
