Sir Gnet

Good morning from Newmarket. Both of our runners ran satisfactorily at Wolverhampton last night, so we took some real encouragement from that. Following on from those performances it would be great to see the slightly frustrating Sir Gnet put his best foot forward at Lingfield this afternoon in the mile and a quarter 0-65 handicap at 5.15.

A son of Galileo out of a Rahy mare who has previously produced three stakes performers, including the Gr.3 winner and sire Surfrider, it is disappointing that Sir Gnet has not won in 16 starts and is rattling around from a rating in the low 60s. In fairness to the horse, he has been quite unfortunate on several occasions, and various little physical problems have held him up in the past 12 months.

He made a very pleasing comeback at Chelmsford in January, however, and now steps back up to what we believe to be his optimum trip. A wide draw is not ideal, but we would likely drop him in and ride for a slice of luck anyway, so hopefully he can overcome that obstacle and run well. He has been ridden at home by Dan Muscutt, so horse and jockey are familiar with each other, and his rating is clearly one from which he should be competitive. This is a tight and competitive little race, and winning has proved beyond Sir Gnet thus far, but I would like to think he can be involved at the business end in one way or another.

All the best,
Ed.
