Wealth Tax Collects

Fri 04 August 2017

A victorious Wealth Tax with his part-owner Trevor Milner and lad Eddie Edge and traveller Alex Nicholson

We had recently broken our Nottingham hoodoo when Al Nafoorah won there last week and we hoped Wealth Tax would add to our tally when he contested the mile handicap. He had disappointed last time but it was from a terrible draw and the form of his win had worked out well with Ballard Down winning a valuable handicap at Newmarket.

Graham Lee tracked the leaders on the son of Canford Cliffs in the early exchanges and whilst he was a fraction free momentarily he soon settled. He travelled well throughout the race and was swinging on the bridle as the field entered the final two furlongs. Our grey was switched to the outside and won easily by three lengths from the staying on Prosecution who was doing his best work late.

This looks to be the optimum conditions for our horse and he got the Mile well in what was very soft ground. We hope the handicapper does not punish him too hard as the second was probably running at a trip shorter than his best and it looked a winnable race beforehand. If he has his say we may run Wealth Tax again next week under a penalty but we will have to see what action he takes. This was a first win on the turf for Wealth Tax but it was only his second try on it and he remains a lightly raced horse that is on the up.

Congratulations to the joint Owners of Wealth Tax the MHS Partners. It was fantastic to see Wealth Tax win again for a second time this year and he looks like he will be a fun horse for the rest of the season. Well done to everyone in the yard, it was not compensation for Dark Red’s disqualification on Tuesday but it is nice to get another winner on the board.
