We are back on the classic trial at Lingfield

Fri 06 May 2011

We have SHARNBERRY ready to roll in the French 1000 Guineas on Sunday week, but before then we make a double attack on the classic dress-rehearsals at Lingfield, with LAUGHING JACK going for the Derby Trial and PALM PILOT the Oaks Trial on Saturday.

Assessing our Lingfield prospects, Ed said:"Laughing Jack has only won his maiden at Windsor, but we think a lot of him. He came from Michael Bell and has done everything right since he joined us. He had to make his own running at Windsor and showed plenty of pluck to hold on. The third was five lengths away, so it was probably a decent maiden, and this race should tell us where we stand as it is a step up in class."

"Palm Pilot takes an even bigger jump, having rattled off a hat-trick of wins on the all-weather, but she deserves a tilt at Listed status."

Reflecting on the disappointing run of RED CADEAUX in Wednesday's Chester Cup - the horse started favourite but trailed in only 12th - Ed added:"The ground was too firm, and Ryan (Moore) was never happy. We have given it two goes around there and it hasn't worked out, so he won't be going back to Chester again. We'll wait until we get some rain and drop him back in trip. We  know he has the speed from his run in the Rosebery, and we will look for a Listed race."
