Red sky in the morning over the Limekilns.

A glorious morning this side of the Irish Sea and a similar story in Newmarket I am told.

A busy day yesterday inspecting yearlings and I trade has been brisk as selling got underway at 10am. This is a catalogue with plenty of quality and Lot 23, a filly by Frankel out of Alexander Goldrun who fetched 1,700,000 euros, set the tone for an exciting couple of days.

All is reported to be well with our Melbourne contingent – we will get a photo update shortly.

Two runners at Wolverhampton’s evening meeting starting with Mulhaam, who runs in the apprentice handicap over six furlongs. He stamina appears to have been stretched the last twice so we thought another crack at sprinting would suit, while his handicap mark is a fair one judged on his Lingfield third two runs ago.

Mulhaam will be ridden by Harry Burns, who has four wins to his name but has his first ride since joining us midsummer, and we hope he enjoys a positive return to the saddle.

We also saddle Sagely in the fillies’ maiden and she is very much on a learning curve. She shaped promisingly at Leicester and is entitled to have improved for that performance, but she will come into her own next year.

Two declarations for Beverley on Thursday with Manjaam heading north for the extended seven furlong maiden while Pyla goes in search of a hat-trick in the fillies’ handicap.

Back tomorrow.
