Good afternoon from Newmarket! Cheltenham kicks off today, so I don’t think too much attention will be paid to our brace of runners at Wolverhampton this evening!

We get started with San Diaco in the 6.15, a nine and a half furlong novice for three-year-olds. This lad got his career underway with an underwhelming performance at Chelmsford 10 days ago, where he was green and outpaced, and never really got involved. I hope he is better than that run, but inevitably we are a big outsider today. He needs further education and this outing should bring him forward, so I am hoping for signs of encouragement. Josephine Gordon takes the ride.

A much more realistic win contender is Global Acclamation, who runs in the six-furlong 0-60 handicap for three-year-olds at 7.15. He was a winner at Chelmsford last time out under Liam Keniry, who retains the mount tonight, and seems to have generally bucked up his ideas following a gelding operation and the application of blinkers. A three pound rise makes life tougher, and this is unquestionably a harder race. However, I hope that his mark of 57 doesn’t represent the ceiling of his ability, so I would like to think we have a solid each way chance from a handy berth in stall 5.

Enjoy the sport at Cheltenham!

All the best,

Ed.
