Trotting.

The sun continues to beat down on our final day away, although I am told it is glorious in Newmarket this morning as well, with the forecasters predicting a red-hot week or so for the south.

Two runners this afternoon with Red Avenger heading up to Newcastle for the mile handicap. I’m pleased the rainfall has been minimal overnight as the faster the ground the better for our horse. He’s been largely disappointing this season, but he ran his best race this year over a straight mile with Graham Lee aboard and he gets those conditions again today. He is undoubtedly well handicapped on the pick of his form, but whether he is on a going day is anyone’s guess.

We also saddle Naizah in the seven furlong maiden at Newmarket and she shaped with plenty of promise at Kempton in the autumn. Hopefully the ground won’t be too quick for her.

Three declarations for Newcastle on Saturday and we are sending an exciting team to the north east. Oasis Fantasy lines up in the Northumberland Plate and we are pleased Chad will ride. Zarwaan goes for the seven furlong handicap earlier on the card while Taqneen lines up in the mile and a quarter handicap. A shower or two would be ideal for all three and the forecast suggests we will get that, so let’s hope it comes to fruition.

We fly later on this afternoon and then it will be back to normality tomorrow.

Until then.
