Thursday July 2

It's just too hot for Puddle.

Another glorious morning but it has become much cooler and overcast now. Maybe the heatwave is over already!

I’m back in full swing (excuse the pun) after a couple of days golfing. Routing cantering exercise for all today but we will work again tomorrow. We hosted a tour of four with breakfast but with Debby on other duties, Mrs D took over the Diner to great effect.

Three runners this afternoon. Queensbury Odyssey lines up in the six furlong maiden at Haydock and we were disappointed with his debut performance at Newmarket. He works with more gusto at home than he showed on that occasion and maybe he just needed the experience badly. Stall 10 looks ok.

Naady runs later on the card in the mile fillies’ handicap. She was too keen at Redcar last time and we have given her a break since. 65 looks an ok mark judged on her run behind the progressive Subcontinent at Wolverhampton and the drop in trip should suit.

Lastly, Souk Al Tahab heads to Lingfield for their seven furlong heat and the field looks to face a difficult task against Solar Flair, who is 5lb well-in under a penalty having bolted up on the July Course last week. Our horse is in the July Sale and we wanted to give him a run before then – he is in good form and this course and distance suits.

No declarations for Saturday – the first of the season without any runners. An opportunity to catch up on Wimbledon beckons...

Finally, we are in the process of putting together a team for the Racing Staff Sports Day, which is held at the Racing Centre on Sunday July 12.This is always a great afternoon and I would encourage as many other yards as possible to get involved, trainers included!

Back tomorrow.
