Gloryette

A slightly overcast start to the morning today and it has tried to drizzle but the forecast suggests that the sun will break through at times later with chances of some light rain this evening. It is always a busy week here in July with many owners coming to visit and today we are hosting just over 100 people for lunch. The horses all seemed in good form during the first two lots out at exercise.

Cliff Face was extremely unlucky yesterday at Lingfield and travelled extremely well through her race before getting stuck behind horses, it was all too late when she was manoeuvred wide and she did extremely well to make up the ground she did, to go down by a neck. Warrior Prince was disappointing when beaten at Great Yarmouth but he kept changing his legs when Frankie asked him to quicken and the ground was too fast for him.

We have six runners today spread over three meetings. I run three fillies in the maiden at the July Course here at Newmarket and they are all nice types but they will all improve for their racecourses debuts. The Lacemaker is a daughter of Dutch Art out of Sospel who has produced the Black Type performer Charming Woman and I hope she can show us some promise in the first division. Instigation also runs in the first division and she is by Bated Breath out of Rainbow’s Edge and she has already produced the smart Peacock. Marwa runs in the second division at 4:55 and she is a well related Exceed And Excel filly, her half- sister Miss Isella is a Grade 2 winner and her half-brother Sir Cherokee has won a Grade 3.

Zamjar runs at Epsom in the six furlong Novice, he has been very consistent but is yet to get his head in front after three placed efforts. The horse that just beat him at Wolverhampton has gone on to finish a close third at Newmarket under a penalty, so the form is solid. Three C’s seems the form danger on his recent Chester second. Alligator runs in the Median Auction at Newbury, he showed a little more at Yarmouth on his second start but he seems up against it here. Gloryette steps up in trip in the 8:40 1m5f handicap, the track should suit her and she is a rangy galloping filly who I hope will improve as the season progresses.

It was a shame Wales could not beat Portugal who finally won a game in ninety minutes when they prevailed 2-0 last night but they were second best and Ronaldo rose to the big occasion. The winner of the France vs Germany game this evening should prevail in the Final but with Ronaldo’s flashes of magic you just never know what might happen this weekend
