Cue's Folly

Good afternoon from Newmarket. We venture to Chelmsford this evening with just the one runner, namely Cue’s Folly in the mile and three-quarter 0-60 handicap at 8.30

A fine big mare, with a breeding career on the horizon, Cue’s Folly was in fairly good form last summer, her efforts including an excellent third at Chepstow and a couple of highly respectable efforts at Wolverhampton. Unfortunately her form took a turn for the worse towards the tail end of the year, and successive disappointing runs at Catterick, Lingfield and Wolverhampton saw her mark slide to its current level of just 43.

That has made placing her difficult, as she is subject to ballot in so many races, whilst she is a filly that needs a fairly specific set of circumstances to show her best. She has been ready to go for a few weeks, and is now in need of a race, so although she is two pounds wrong at the weights and going around a track that is sharper than ideal, when we realised we would sneak in at the bottom of the weights, we knew we had to take our chance.

A wide draw complicates matters further, so we must be realistic in the assessment of her chance. The new variables in play today are the in-form Hollie Doyle in the saddle, and the fact that the filly will be sporting first time blinkers. Hopefully this combination of factors will allow Cue’s Folly to return to her best and show us some encouragement this evening, but we are up against it.

All the best,
Ed.
